For me the creative act is a spiritual experience. I really get into my painting when I just let the spirit in the painting take over. I sing, pray aloud, chant mantras and incantations while I work with the paint and canvas to "Court the Muse"
Inspiration is Divine and goes beyond imagination. Imagination has a result in mind. Inspiration is "In" "spire" and we let the spirit "In" to guide our work. We let the Muse and the spirit of creativity move through us with very little thought or planing, even in choosing the colors is spontaneous... in Zen it is called the "Controlled Accident"
I always let the accidents happen and guided by the the Muse incorporate them into my motif of circles because that is what I see in my visions I paint my visions as a spontaneous spiritual expression and capture images of my visions.
I have a healing experience arising from the creative act because it sets free any tension or worry I might have because I am rapt away in this mystical experience of bliss. I am happy when I paint in an elevated state because I don't plan for a result I just "Go with the flow" letting the spirits of creativity and my Muse take over encouraging and guiding me in creating my works of art.
I call them Spirit Paintings because I capture a moment in my ephemeral visions when spirits visit me in meditation. They are multicolored and more vibrantly radiant than anything I have ever seen in my life. They are often accompanied by something much like music but richer and more emotional. Some times the talk. Often they seem to whisper in my ear or tell me things when doing readings. It is things just poping into my head I did not know and am lead to say.
Creativity is as close to the Divine as most of us are allowed. Let the "Spirit move you" in things you are doing. Many great scientists and inventors had their creations come to them in dreams. Let your imagination be a stepping stone into the "Creative Accident" where you let your work become spontaneous. When we allow serendipity to move us anything is possible.
